Solid app, minor issues

I signed up for the TalkPal AI Language Tutor to improve my French. The platform itself is quite comprehensive, offering various modes like Debate and Sentence Correction which I found helpful. The real-time feedback was a big plus, and it definitely helped my pronunciation. Delivery of the service, being digital, was instant, which is always good. My only small gripe is that sometimes the AI's responses felt a bit repetitive in longer conversations, but it's a minor point considering the overall utility. For the price of the Premium subscription, it's a very practical tool.

Good value for Spanish learning

I was looking for an affordable way to practice my Spanish and found TalkPal Premium. The annual plan was discounted, which really sealed the deal for me. I got a lot for my money, especially with the roleplay mode. It felt like a solid investment in my learning.

Fun way to learn Italian

So I decided to try TalkPal to brush up on my Italian, just for fun. I used the app on my phone. The Character Mode was pretty cool, it felt like I was actually talking to someone. The voice recognition was surprisingly good, I thought it would be a bit glitchy but it worked well. I liked that it corrected my sentences. All in all, a decent experience and I'm glad I tried it.

Thinking about TalkPal for Spanish, but I've also heard good things about Loora. Anyone use both and have thoughts on which is better?

C Cody Doyle 2 months ago
I've only used TalkPal but my friend tried Loora and said TalkPal felt more interactive with the roleplays. Loora was good for quick practice but maybe not as deep.

TalkPal seems to have more languages and modes, like debate mode and character mode. Loora is pretty focused. Depends what you're looking for, I guess. For Spanish, either should be fine but TalkPal might give you more variety.

Thinking about getting TalkPal, but kinda curious about the lifetime deal. Are those still happening or was that a Black Friday thing?

R Rosa 2 months ago
Yeah, I grabbed a lifetime deal last year during a holiday sale. They pop up sometimes, not just Black Friday.

I think they do them periodically, not super often though. I'd keep an eye on their site or sign up for emails.

How accurate is the voice recognition on TalkPal for non-native speakers? I have a pretty strong accent and wanna know if it'll understand me.

N Neil A. 2 months ago
It's surprisingly good, even with my terrible French accent lol. It usually gets what I'm trying to say and corrects me if I butcher pronunciation too badly.

It's AI, so it's not perfect, but it's one of the better ones I've used. I speak Spanish with a non-native accent and it usually picks it up fine. Sometimes you have to repeat, but that's normal with these things.

Hey, if I sign up for the annual premium and then decide it's not for me after a couple months, can I get some money back?

S Steve 2 months ago
Nah, I don't think they do prorated refunds. Usually, it's a no-refund policy unless you cancel super quick after subscribing.

Returns for annual are usually tough with these subscription services. Check their terms, but often it's 'all sales final' once you're past the initial few days.

Is TalkPal actually good for real conversations? Like, can it help me sound more natural than just memorizing phrases from Duolingo?

N Noor 1 month ago
Definitely. The roleplay mode is pretty solid, you actually get to interact instead of just picking multiple choice. It points out grammar stuff too.

It's better for speaking practice than Duolingo, for sure. The AI tries to keep a convo going which is cool. It's not a real human though, obviously.
